Big Backyard

Big Backyard daytime activities back by popular demand from 10am to 4pm with endless family fun.

There will be a Social Scene stage with live music and entertainment performances, kid's lamington and kite making workshops, amusement rides for young and old, Australian colonial historical re-enactments, animal encounters with adorable dressed up ducks, sheep shearing, delicious treats and much more.

Social Scene

Keep it cool, step out onto the social scene, and check out some of our best local performers. Hang out in the chill out area with a DJ playing live tunes or treat the kids’ to a range of thrilling amusements, including the aqua orb balls, and get into some finger licking fun with free lamington and kite making workshops.

Lamington Making

Workshops on the hour from 10am till 4pm with limited spaces available

Amusements Rides

The little ones will love the jumping castles, bumper boats and the carousel ride which will cost no more than $2. For the bigger kids there’ll be bungee trampolines, aqua orbs balls and dodgem cars up to $10 a ride.

Natasha Eloise

Natasha-Eloise is a young, local singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist. Natasha-Eloise engages her audience with a performance of popular covers and her own songs that delivers enchanting melody, vibrant rhythm and passionate lyrics.

Toongabbie Music Club

The Club started in the early 1980s as a folk music club but changed to the Toongabbie Music Club to encourage all types of music and poetry. The range of ages is from 14 to 80 and the type of music played varies from folk, blues, light classical, jazz, rock, pop, Australian Colonial, country and western to old time.

Jing DanceJing Dance

Jing Dance is a school that teaches Western dance styles to Chinese children and adults, with an emphasis on ballet and contemporary character dance.

Blue Shiver

Blue Shiver, a six-piece band from western Sydney, perform a unique blend of rock and pop covers. Their sound and style is influenced by AC/DC right through to Usher and Pink.

Platinum BhangaraPlatinum Bhangra

Platinum Indian Entertainment will be dancing a traditional Bhangra style and their colourful and uplifting dance and music will take audiences on a journey to India.

 

 

 

The HeartbeatsHeart Beats

Local band The Heartbeats will charm audiences with their enthralling rock/pop music sound. The band launched their career in Parramatta as a family band and have since received national attention through ABC radio national, Life Matters and international attention through an Al Jazeera TV documentary in 2008. They launched their debut album, ‘Cast the Net’ in October 2010.

Next Level GenerationNext Level Generation

Next Level Generation (NLG) is a dynamic performing arts company that provides high quality training in dance, singing and drama. Their upbeat and vibrant show will captivate and inspire audiences.

Eco Experience

The Eco Village will be filled with interactive and fun creative workshops. Kids and families will love the sustainable entertainment with arts and crafts workshops, environmental performances, live animal and insect shows, interactive gadgets, eco stalls and all things green.

Arts and Crafts Marquee

These workshops will teach children the importance of being green in a fun relaxed atmosphere. Children will have the opportunity to create a range of fun items from recycled and sustainable materials. The arts and craft workshops area will run for the duration of the event from 10am to 4pm.

Entertainment Marquee

This area will feature a number of environmental children’s acts and small eco workshops. Acts will run on the hour from 11am till 4pm and feature some of Australia’s best environmental performers for children including magicians, clowns, live animal and insect shows and character-based performances.

Solar Powered Video Games Unit

This unit is a working display of solar power in action. The solar unit features fun video games for the kids and a learn your eco-footprint display. Workshops will run in conjunction with the display.

Worm Farming Display

A large portable worm farm display that teaches kids about the value of composting and worm farming. Workshops are run in conjunction with the display.

Ecoliving Education Trailer

The solar powered Ecoliving Education Trailer provides an interactive display covering most aspects of environmentally friendly living and includes multimedia displays and printed materials on various objects of interest.

Eco Stalls

Featured throughout the area will be a variety of stall holders promoting everything green from solar power, baby products, clothing; home wares and more. The stalls will also showcase Parramatta’s local eco-initiatives.

Old Parra Town

Colonial TentsTake a walk through the past and see what Parramatta was like in the early 1800s. Take part in a historic re-enactment or watch the impressive red coats fire their muskets and visit the colonial kitchen and make damper bread and billy tea.

Historical re-enactments throughout the day will include:

  • A kitchen that will display cooking such as billy tea and damper making
  • Convict tent
  • A squad of soldiers who will conduct drill and blank firing of Muskets
  • Fire and drums
  • Flag raising and volley firing
  • Memorabilia and antique utensils displayed
  • Convict march
  • Performers dressed in traditional colonial costumes
National and World Heritage site

Old Government House will be open for inspection from 10am - 4pm. Also open will be the National Trust shop for Australia Day souvenirs. Gold coin entry requested.

Lancers Museum Display

An intriguing static display of historical military equipment, featuring two light armoured vehicles. Presented by the NSW Lancers Memorial Museum Inc.

Outback Station

Dressed up Ducks

Step back in time and get ready for some old fashion fun with whip cracking, woodchoppers, sheep shearing and sheep dog trials and a hilarious dressed up ducks show.

Animal Encounters

Animal lovers from far and wide should visit the reptile and farm yard zoos, where they can find all sorts of swimming, slithering, soaring, and crawling creatures! Don’t miss this unique opportunity to feed and play with the animals in a safe environment.

Take the time to perfect your football skills by paying a visit to our Rugby League and AFL Clinics! Take part in football drills and watch out for a chance to meet your favourite NRL players and members of the Greater western Sydney Giants.

The Slow ShowThe Slow Show

Roving from 11am to 2pm

The show is part installation, part theatre, and part roving performance. Trichia is a nature-loving human and Helix, a giant garden snail. They live together in Helix’s beautifully crafted shell and are slowly travelling the world enjoying the magic in simple things.

Aussie Prawn Stars

Roving from 12pm to 3pm

Recently created for the Rugby World Cup in Auckland, these two Aussie Prawns are typically Australian. They walkabout interacting with people with their tongs and thousand island dressing. People love having their photos taken with the prawns and talking prawn.
