Recognise Our Local Unsung Heroes

Do you know an outstanding Aussie or community group in Parramatta that makes you feel proud to be an Australian? If you do, you have the chance to reward them for their work. Parramatta residents are invited to nominate fellow citizens for the 2011 Parramatta City Australia Day Awards.

“It is an opportunity to recognise and reward the special people in our community and the great contribution they make to the City of Parramatta,” said Lord Mayor of Parramatta City Council, Cr John Chedid.

"Parramatta is home to such a diverse community and its people regularly perform extraordinary feats which can sometimes go un-noticed. The Australia Day Awards are a chance to acknowledge these excellent citizens, so I urge everybody to think about and nominate friends, family, work colleagues or community groups who have worked hard to make Parramatta such a great place to live, work and play," Cr Chedid said.

Nominations are invited for the following categories:

Senior Citizen of the Year: 60 years and over
Citizen of the Year
– 22 to 59 years
Young Citizen of the Year – up to 21 years
Junior Citizen of the Year – up to 17 years
Sportsperson of the Year – Open
Community Event/Project of the Year – any event or project held in 2010 that benefits the community of Parramatta. The event or project must be coordinated by a local community organisation based in the Parramatta local government area.
The Awards will be announced on Australia Day 2011 in a special ceremony held by Parramatta City Council.
Nominations close on 10 January 2011. Completed nomination forms can be mailed to Civic Events, PO Box 32, Parramatta NSW 2124 or personally dropped in at Council’s administration building or faxed to 02 9806 5916.
